With finals coming up and all of your college besties about to scatter to the winds of their home towns, the time is ripe for a great girl’s night in before another year of college comes to a close. So you’ve got your popcorn and snacks, your wine of choice, your favorite yoga pants, but something is missing. That something is the perfect movie, or two or three, to inspire the best “aww” and “OMG” moments of the night. Read on for a few flicks you might want to screen, most of which include the next best combination after peanut butter and chocolate: a plot that spurs your imagination and conversation, a hot guy, and some laughs.

The Princess Bride

So maybe she’s not the most independent and empowering female heroine, but Princess Buttercup’s love story is a timeless classic, and if Westley’s chivalry isn’t enough to win you over there is always the classic performances of Inigo Montoya, Vizzini, and Fezzik (Andre the Giant) to tide you over.

Dirty Dancing

The lift in the infamous dance scene to Time of My Life. Enough said.

Mr. And Mrs. Smith

Nothing like the chemistry between Brad and Angelina to spice up your girls night!

Charlie’s Angels

If you and your girls want to a daily dose of feeling badass and empowered look no further than this flick, especially the recent installment with Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Drew Barrymore.

Chocolat

No girl’s night moviethon is complete with Johnny Depp, and while there are an array of great Depp movies to chose from, why not stick to a classic? It’s a feel good movie that has all of the elements for a great story, and a great night.

Atonement

If you’re looking for something a little less cheery and a little more on the artistic side, Atonement is your pick. The love story between Ceilia and Robbie is compelling and will tug at every heart string, and the cinematography and glamor factor alone is worth watching for.

Up

Enough said.

The Holiday

If you thought Titanic was the only great love story for Kate Winslet, think again! Also, this movie is shorter so it’s ideal for a girl’s night that doesn’t leave everyone feeling tired and ready to go home and hit the sack. Also, Jack Black is his usual funny self, balanced perfectly by the studly Jude Law.

The Break-Up

Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn at their finest!

Bridesmaids

If you’re hosting a girl’s night this is a go-to, you’ll laugh for days and be reminded of how much you appreciate your (hopefully) healthier friendship!

Good list! Surprised you didn’t mention Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Mean Girls, or Pitch Perfect, but I suppose those are a given.
