Whether it’s in your glove box, purse, or backpack, every college girl should have a space where she can carry some essentials with her every day. You don’t want to always be lugging around your whole cosmetics case, and I hope I don’t have to tell you what happens if you leave your makeup in a hot car all day. Instead, pack a tiny emergency case with these three beauty essentials and you’ll avoid any beauty catastrophe that comes your way in the course of a day.
Nail File
If you’ve ever had a hangnail, or broken fingernail, and were stuck in class without a nail file, you’ll understand how essential this first tool is. Not only are nail problems unsightly, but they can be extremely distracting and prevent you from focussing on your work or lecture. Plus, it’s unsanitary and potentially dangerous to try and take care of the problem yourself, i.e. my gnawing at the trouble spot with your teeth. Instead, pick up a value pack of cheapie nail files that you can stash around your daily accoutrement so that you can take care of any nail problems in a flash and get back to your day.

I remember wearing scrunchies around my wrists back in the day. Not only was it a tubular fashion statement, but it was functional: you never know when a spontaneous soccer game is gonna break out on the playground and you need to put your hair in a power pony! The same rule applies to your college years: if you spend a lot of time away from the house (on campus, at work, at the sorority house) your morning ‘do might not make it through the whole day. Having a few loose hairbands and a cute, soft headband or two will save your butt more times than one. They can hide greasy bangs, help you cool off on a hot afternoon, and even help you focus on studying instead of pushing your hair off of your textbook. Grab enough to loan out and share the wealth: you’ll be every girl you meet’s new bff.

Lip Gloss
Glossy lips may be at the bottom of your beauty importance list, but a lip gloss can do more than perk up your grin after the rest of your sultry look has worn off. First, lip gloss is naturally resistant to melting, so no worries about leaving it in a hot car or locker. Plus, it not only adds a healthy shine and pop of colour to your lips, but you can use it as a highlighter on cheek bones to add subtle hue to your cheeks and brighten your complexion. If it’s got a nice scent, you can even use it as a makeshift perfume in a pinch: just dab some gloss to your wrists and behind your ears, where it will not only be invisible, but where skin is thin enough to heat it up and release the subtle, sweet scent. Is there anything lip gloss can’t do?
