If you haven’t mastered the art of the false eyelash yet, don’t fret: there are lots of ways to feign long, luscious lashes even if you’re fringe-challenged. Read on for our tips on making the most of what you’ve got, and stay tuned for our first ever Every College Girl video how-to guide, which will show you how to rock false lashes with ease.

Moisturize

Not a word you typically associate with your eye lashes, but, just like regular hair, eyelashes can get dried-out and become brittle, weak, and dull. To keep you lashes soft and shiny, be gentle when removing eye makeup. Instead of harsh cleansers, try using all natural olive oil on a cotton swab to gently lift away eye makeup before washing your face normally. The oil helps to dissolve the makeup while moisturizing and nourishing your lashes to leave them soft and healthy.

Curl

If you’re a fan of Every College Girl, you’ve probably noticed my obsession with eyelash curlers. They really make a world of difference in the appearance of length and fullness in your lashes. However, to avoid damaging your lashes make sure to invest in a quality eyelash curler with soft cushioning to keep your fringe from getting bent by metal edges. Try this gorgeous, professional curler from Tweezerman. It’s a little pricey (about $20) but it will last forever and protect your lashes for life.

Mascara

Of course, the best way to really show off your lashes is with mascara. Sometimes it is overwhelming when you see all the mascaras on the market. Do you want plumping? Thickening? Extra length? It’s enough to make you want to forget the whole idea! I have multiple mascaras for different occasions: some a thick and clumpy, for when I want a more dramatic look, while others are clean and smooth for day-to-day use. Below are some of the ones I like. I suggest building a similar collection, of 2-3 drugstore mascaras (and maybe one department store splurge) for different occasions. Just remember to replace them after 6 months, or else bacteria might build up in the tube and cause a serious eye infection.

It is a common belief that wearing mascara with your eyelashes is the way to go. In some cases, it is believed that using mascara with the false lashes will help blend them in with your natural eyelashes, this is true but if you want to re wear your lashes, it always best not to use mascara.
