So, there’s this cute boy you know. You’ve been crushing on him for a while. You met in class, at work, or through a group of mutual friends. He’s funny, sweet, charming – everything you could ever want and more. And the best part of all this? He just asked you out! When you’re out on the town with the man of your dreams, consider these tips for a lovely first date:

Location, location, location.

When in doubt, go somewhere casual. Now is not the time for a candelight dinner on the beach at sunset. Instead, let him take you out for coffee or ice cream. The laid-back atmosphere will ease your interaction and help calm your nerves. Also, unlike dinner and a movie, a coffee date will allow you to talk and ask questions without interruption, distraction, or pressure.

Money, honey.

Offer to pay, at least for your share. Although it’s tempting to assume he’s paying, don’t jump to conclusions. If you don’t try to pay, he could think you’re spoiled. Offer to split the bill, however, and he’ll be impressed. If he insists on picking it up anyway, don’t fight him. Say “thank you” and mean it and move on with the evening.

Be yourself!

Yes, it’s cliché, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. He asked you out, which means he wants to get to know you – the real you – a little better. Above all, be honest with him. Make sure he likes you for who you really are. If he doesn’t appreciate you being yourself, then he doesn’t deserve to have a second date with you.

What do you think?

How do you feel about these tips? What tips do you keep in mind on first dates?

If he’s asked you out it’s fair to assume he’ll be paying. Many guys will not be “impressed” by your trying to pay.
I totally agree about a movie not being the ideal situation for a date, particularly a first one; you’ve got to be able to talk to each other!
