Heading somewhere warm this spring break? Well, I set aside my jealous for long enough to offer you a few tips and tricks for prepping to make sure your vacation is nothing but stress-free and fabulous!

Step 1: Do Your Homework

No, really, do your homework, girl! Whether we accept it or not, reading weeks are really intended for just that: reading! It’s easy at this time of year to get backed up with homework, readings, and studying to do, and when you’re on vacation you know you’re not going to want to lug that chemistry text to the beach. Even worse, when you get back you don’t want to kill your vacation buzz by having to cram a week’s worth of work into a day or two before school picks up again. Instead, plan ahead. Take a look at what will be due in the weeks following your spring break, get caught up and even get ahead on readings and work that needs to be done so when it’s time to lay by the pool, you can read about the latest celebrity gossip instead of the periodic table.

Step 2: Get Beach Body-Licious

You don’t need to do a crash diet or start baking yourself in a tanning bed, in fact I’d highly recommend not doing either of those unhealthy things. Instead, try hitting the gym or taking a new fitness class with friends in the next few weeks? Swap out on your morning doughnut for a piece of fresh fruit, and take care of your skin with lots of water and sleep so you have a natural glow when you step onto the beach. If you want a little colour, a self-tanning lotion mixed in with your morning moisturizer will gradually build up to give you a natural look so you don’t glow like a neon light when you get down south.

Step 3: Lighten Your Load

When it comes time to pack, less is more. You’re going to be spending most of the day in your bikini anyway, so toss in a couple suits over your skinny jeans or leather jacket. One or two nice dresses are good in case you decide to eat out, but for the most part, cotton sundresses will do the trick and are easy to throw on after a long day in the sun. Two pairs of sandals: one dressy, one casual, are all that you’ll need. Don’t forget the essentials like sunscreen, toothpaste, shampoo, and conditioner, which are often overpriced in vacation areas. You can bring makeup if you like, but stick to basics: a little coverup, some lip balm, and a light mascara will keep you looking beachy, fresh, and fantastic.

Good call on blending moisturizer and self-tanning lotion. To get your beach body in time for spring break, joining a yoga or dance class with a friend is a fun way to get it together.

I’ll be heading to Punta Cana and I can’t wait. Instead of baking in a tanning bed I think I’m going to try an airbrush tan!
