If you’re like me, your search for the perfect lotion is never ending. Different seasons call for different qualities and quantities, and it’s hard to find one that’s just right for your skin type and what your skin needs at any given time. But what if I were to tell you that the Holy Grail of lotions that you have been seeking is made with three cheap ingredients that you most likely already have in your medicine cabinet?

This recipe has been all the rage on beauty blogs lately, find out why…

What you need

  • 16 ounces of baby lotion (use Johnson’s)
  • 8 ounces of Vaseline
  • 8 ounces of vitamin E cream
  • Containers to put the finish product in

What to do

  1. Put all ingredients into a large mixing bowl
  2. Mix with an electric mixer until it resembles the consistency of icing
  3. Put into containers and enjoy!

It really is that easy. Not only is it also cheap, but you can make as much as you want, and the vitamin E cream makes this lotion extremely revitalizing for your skin in a way that won’t leave it dry after use.

What do you think?

Hey, surprise: You can make lotion out of lotion!

Nah, seriously. That stuff is all right, but it ends up getting kind of sticky. What I do is take some mineral oil and add in essential oils from other stuff. You can put pine needles in it until you’re ready to use it, or use clove or lemon or lavender oil… you can put ground spices in, too. Then you can put it in a bottle–preferably one of those travel squirt bottles so it doesn’t all come out at once–and use it like hand lotion. It doesn’t even have to be mineral oil–it can just be olive oil if you want. Olive oil smells good and is really good for your skin and hair. Plus, if you find a scent you like or you want to keep your hair from frizzing, you can take a cotton swab and wet it with this oil/scent mixture, and apply it to your brush. My clove oil mixture keeps my hair all nice and shiny :)

Oh, and forget about that vanilla extract stuff. I got my hands on a bottle of anise extract, and you can basically use that stuff like perfume. Now I smell like licorice all the time. It’s good stuff! I bet you could find it on the Internet if you wanted.
