The most common question we usually get growing up is what are you going to do after college. After graduating college most of us are thrown into the real world and you can find yourself somewhat lost. Choosing the right job can be a stressful situation when you have no idea where to begin your journey. Below you can find a few tips to make the search a little bit easier.
Beginning the search:
Just thinking about searching for a job or internship can have your brain in a mess. Usually your college can help you in this process but there are also plenty of ways to do it yourself. Many websites are now posting their internships online which can give you a better idea of what they are looking for. Most of the websites can be searched under specific categories and are usually split up into sections depending on the certain type of job.
What to look for in a job:
Right out of college most of us will not get our dream job but it is all about taking the right steps to getting where we want to be. It is important to think about the contacts you may have from professors or family members. When looking for a job you want to find something that you are going to enjoy doing. There is nothing worse than waking up everyday and dreading going to work. The important thing is that you may not start out doing something worthwhile at first but if you work your hardest it is easier to move to the top. The next thing to look at is the pay, most college kids will end up starting in internships where they may not make the most money but it is the experience that counts.
Finding the right company for you:
One of the most difficult things when making a decision on choosing the right job is picking the right company to work for. At some point in your college career the light bulb will go off and you will find out exactly what it is that you want to do. Right out of college you will not get your dream job but you can work your way up the ladder to land that position. When searching for a company you should keep in mind what there long term goals are and what they offer their employees. There also are the perks of working for companies such as traveling, free gifts, and even dealing with celebrity clients. The most important part of finding the right company to work for is doing your research about the company. By doing this you will be able to find out information that you may have not known such as trips you could be taking as an intern or what qualities they are looking for in an employee. As in every field of work things will not always be glamorous but that is what creates learning experiences and teaches us life lessons.

I already know exactly what kind of job I want to have and how to get it. That’s why I’m going to college now. Because I already have a plan.
try and find a mentor or group of students that have access to the outside world during your college years and start there. I think someone in the actual field is the best resource and they often times can lead you in a more specific direction. So start rubbing elbows with some of those big wigs :)
