I can’t believe that we’re this far into the year 2012 already. Time flies so quickly sometimes, and often, months come and go without any real meaning. I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly worried about wasting my life, so I want to make the most of every opportunity. One of the best ways I’ve found to grab life by the horns is to do a challenge every month.

What is the one month challenge?

Admittedly, the notion of wanting to change or adopt a habit isn’t exactly a new one. I mean, almost everyone makes New Year’s Resolutions every year. But what if I told you that by agreeing to stick with something for about thirty days, you could actually make things happen? All you have to do is pick a goal and stick with it for a month. If you like the resolution, you can stick with it, but if not, you’re free to drop it and move on to your next idea.

How should I challenge myself?

Well, it all depends on your personality and lifestyle. Example one month challenges include getting more sleep, cutting out sugar, cutting out soda, not eating after 10pm, working out every day, and writing a novel. Personally, I tried the no-caffeine challenge for a month, and I really struggled. The not eating after 10pm challenge was much easier for me, and it’s a habit I keep to this day.

How do I stay motivated?

Once you’ve decided what you want to do for the next month, write your goal on a post-it note and stick it somewhere prominent. I keep mine on the wall above my desk so I can see it every day. Then, consider keeping a journal to chart your progress through the month. You’ll be amazed to see how far you’ve come at the end of your one-month journey!

What do you think?

Have you ever done a one-month challenge? How do you challenge yourself?
