With the new year right around the corner and the entire year in perspective, now is the time to craft a few new year’s resolutions. To craft the perfect (or, achievable) new year’s resolutions, make sure your goal has the following four qualities in order to be successful next year:

Go for it

Don’t hold back on yourself. You can achieve whatever you want. All you need is some willpower. Find that within yourself and make your dreams come true. Whether it’s learning to play the piano or learning the salsa, you can do it! Your determination will prove to be successful if you constantly keep your eyes on the prize.

Offer encouragement

Let’s face it. We’re all human and we all make mistakes. The important thing is how many times we stand up despite the many times we fall. Since you are your biggest critic, offer motivation and encouragement to yourself. If you make one mistake, don’t let that mistake define you. Tell yourself that you can do it and try again the next day. Goals can take time, therefore be positive when it comes to how much you have accomplished at the end of each day.

Attainability

Make a goal that is at least attainable. This prevents for future disappointments. The goal should be something that is do-able, meaning that it can be done every day, every week, or whatever your measures are. With this in mind, make sure you goal can be done in coordination to your hectic schedules.

Long term

Think about the long term consequences of your goal, whether positive or negative. (Negative because what if your goal is to get your ex boyfriend back from his new girlfriend, cat fight right there!) Each goal you make and achieve affects you in the long run. Therefore, make sure that this goal is something that you absolutely want.
