Great for dorm rooms, first apartments, greek houses, or any other college housing, canvas photo prints are a beautiful and creative way to make art out of your favorite photographs. And it can be done with only four materials in 5 steps, what more can you want out of a summer craft?
What you need
A printed photograph
A canvas (the same size as your photograph, sold at your local craft store)
Matte Mod Podge (also sold at your local craft store)
Acrylic paint (in a dark color that compliments your photograph)
Step by step
- Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the canvas surface with a thick brush, allow to dry completely. While it will go on milky-looking it will dry clear! This step is necessary for photo longevity.
- Measure out your photograph and make sure it gets as close to the edges of the canvas without going over. Trim it down with scissors if necessary.
- With a thick brush, apply a coat of Mod Podge over the photograph with clean, straight strokes in going in the same direction. Again it will look a little cloudy at first, but will dry clear!
- Let dry completely
- With an acrylic paint in a dark shade that compliments your photograph (for example, if it’s a black and white photograph choose black, if it’s a nature photograph choose a dark brown or green) sponge the edges of the canvas completely. Then sponge paint onto the edges of your photograph to blend it all together.
Let dry and voila!
